Samuel Ibn Tibbon  from Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy  (2024-3-7 11:57)
[Revised entry by James T. Robinson on March 6, 2024. Changes to: Bibliography] Samuel Ibn Tibbon (c. 1165 - 1232) was a translator, philosopher, and philosophical commentator on the Bible. He is most famous for his translation of Maimonides' Guide of the Perplexed from Arabic into Hebrew, but he translated other works by Maimonides, and produced the first Hebrew versions of Aristotle and Averroes. In addition to his work as translator, Ibn Tibbon was an original author in his own right. He wrote the first full Aristotelian/Maimonidean explication of the biblical book Ecclesiastes, a...
Fictionalism  from Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy  (2024-3-7 11:10)

Zeno’s Paradoxes  from Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy  (2024-3-7 9:09)
[Revised entry by Nick Huggett on March 6, 2024. Changes to: Main text, Bibliography] Almost everything that we know about Zeno of Elea is to be found in the opening pages of Plato's Parmenides. There we learn that Zeno was nearly 40 years old when Socrates was a young man, say 20. Since Socrates was born in 469 BC we can estimate a birth date for Zeno around 490 BC. Beyond this, really all we know is that he was close to Parmenides (Plato reports the gossip that they had a sexual relationship when Zeno was young), and that he wrote a book of paradoxes defending Parmenides' philosophy. Sadly this book has...
