John Wyclif (c. 1331 - 84) was one of the most important and authoritative thinkers of the later Middle Ages. He was active in the very crucial period of late Scholasticism, when new ideas and doctrines began to accelerate the transition to modern ways of thinking. On the one hand, he was a precursor of the Reformation by leading a movement of opposition to the medieval Church and some of its dogmas and institutions; on the other, he was the most prominent English philosopher of the second half of the 14th century....

The topic of the self has long been salient in feminist philosophy, for it is pivotal to questions about personal identity, the body, sociality, and agency that feminism must address. Simone de Beauvoir's provocative declaration, "He is the Subject, he is the Absolute - she is the Other", signals the central importance of the self for feminism.
