from Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
(2025-5-7 10:52)
|
[Revised entry by Alessandro Conti on May 6, 2025.
Changes to: Main text, Bibliography]
John Wyclif (c. 1331 - 84) was one of the most important and authoritative thinkers of the later Middle Ages. He was active in the very crucial period of late Scholasticism, when new ideas and doctrines began to accelerate the transition to modern ways of thinking. On the one hand, he was a precursor of the Reformation by leading a movement of opposition to the medieval Church and some of its dogmas and institutions; on the other, he was the most prominent English philosopher of the second half of the 14th century....

Feminist Perspectives on the Self
from Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
(2025-5-7 10:26)
|
[Revised entry by Ellen June Anderson, Cynthia Willett, and Diana Meyers on May 6, 2025.
Changes to: Main text, Bibliography, bib.html]

Descartes’ Ontological Argument
from Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy
(2025-5-6 10:52)
|
[Revised entry by Lawrence Nolan on May 5, 2025.
Changes to: Main text, Bibliography]
Descartes' ontological (or a priori) argument is both one of the most fascinating and poorly understood aspects of his philosophy. Fascination with the argument stems from the effort to prove God's existence from simple but powerful premises. Existence is derived immediately from the clear and distinct idea of a supremely perfect being. Ironically, the simplicity of the argument has also produced several misreadings, exacerbated in part by Descartes' tendency to formulate it in different ways....

from DER SPIEGEL - Schlagzeilen
(2025-5-5 17:30)
|
